A solar thermal panel is installed on the roof of your property to harness the sun’s heat and uses it to heat up water stored in a cylinder.
An Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) works a bit like a fridge in reverse. The ASHP absorbs heat from the outside air into a liquid at a low temperature, then the heat pump compressor raises the temperature of that heat. Finally, the condenser will transfer the hot liquid's heat to your heating and hot-water systems. You can use it to warm up your home and heat your hot water.
Radiation from the sun heats the earth. The earth then stores the heat and maintains, just two metres or so down, a temperature of around 10°C even throughout the winter. A Ground Source Heat Pump transfers that heat from the ground into buildings for your heating and hot water needs.
Typically, an ST system will cost between £3,800-£6,000 depending on the type of system currently in your property, the orientation of your roof etc.
Typically, an ASHP will cost between £7,000-£15,000. The cost will vary depending on your property, the number of occupants and whether your existing radiators need upgrading.
Typically, a GSHP will cost in the region of £20,000-£60,000. This is obviously a wide range that will vary depending on the grounds, your property, the type of system required etc.
