In July 2020 the government launched with great fanfare its Green Homes Grant (GHG), as part of its 10-point Climate Change plan.
Under this initiative, householders could claim vouchers of between £5,000 and £10,000 for the cost of improving the energy efficiency of their homes.
The response from householders was enthusiastic and Pure Green Energy were delighted to be flooded with online applications for quotations. Our team invested heavily in preparing quotes for our customers, undertaking site visits and planning for the expected installations.
Unfortunately, this scheme has been riddled with inefficiencies and delays from the start. The vouchers were issued four months behind schedule and some applications were randomly rejected. As a business that is passionate about climate change we are extremely disappointed with the delays and are lobbying to address this.
Our first installation was completed and submitted to Green Homes Grant for payment on 17th December 2020. The GHG rules stated that suppliers would receive a payment within 5 days. Unfortunately, no payments have yet been received and they are now considerably overdue.
We have learnt that we are not the only business that is owed thousands of pounds for completed installations.
Pure Green Energy are sadly unable to continue with any funded installations until the matter of payment by the government is resolved. We are aware that homeowners and installers alike are losing patience with the scheme. As a business invested in climate change, we are extremely disappointed with the unfulfilled promises of the government.
As a small business, we have felt the impact and it appears that the Green Homes Grant scheme is struggling before it has got off the ground.
The UK Government made a decision to outsource the administration of this flagship scheme to the USA. In the year that the UK is leading the Climate Change Conference and at a time when the country’s economy is in question, we feel passionately this is a national disgrace and should be a huge embarrassment for the government.
Pure Green Energy's heart and soul is invested in ensuring that renewable energy solutions are available to everyone. As a business who is championing climate change, we feel extremely let down by our government and these inefficiencies.
