Forde Abbey Goes Green with Biomass

PGE are delighted to announce the award of a major contract to supply a 600kW biomass system to the historic Forde Abbey which is set in the beautiful Dorset countryside.

The Abbey was built almost 900 years ago by Cistercian monks and remains a home for the Kennard family. The house and gardens are open to the public. The property hosts a commercial farming enterprise.

Two 300kW boilers are being installed at the property along with the ancillary cylinders and pipework to provide the required heating and hot water. Alongside the main Abbey, the commercial greenhouses, associated farm cottages and the sawmill complex will also be heated by the biomass boilers.

The boilers will run on locally sourced wood chip which is entirely appropriate for such an historic building.

The installation of renewable energy to the Abbey is entirely appropriate to such an historic, important part of one of England’s finest properties.

It is hoped that the project will be completed this Spring.
